How to weave basket’s top without bending:
2 ways. 1. Weaving triple straight and reverse ropes and cutting the base tubes. Start to weave with Reverse rope with three tubes. Lead the left tube under the two tubes and behind the third base tube. Now we’re going to finish the Reverse rope and replace it with Straight rope. The last row are woven with Straight rope by three tubes. Also this row is going to be the top of the basket instead of bending. We’re going to cut off the base tubes at approximately 3 mm distance and hide the edges under the last row. You can cut off all the tubes right away. During the weaving, drip glue on the cut edges to fixate the weaving tubes and don’t let them slip away. Begin weaving from the left tube. Lead it behind the cut base tube, fixate, and hold for a while. Press it down. The second tube is woven pretty tightly Press the tubes to avoid slipping away. Form the top right away, because it’s glued, and later it will be impossible to correct it. This is how it looks from above. Continue weaving until the end of the row. That’s all, the last row is finished. Don’t forget to press and adjust the tubes during weaving. This is how it looks from above. Adjust the top when glue dried a bit to hide the base tubes. Make sure that the base tubes are hidden by the last row. The less base tubes are seen the better. However they will not be hidden completely. They will still be visible somewhere. You can paint them pink afterwards. Spend some time to adjust the top, because it has to look neat. 2. Weaving triple straight and reverse ropes and inserting the base tubes into the weaving. I’m going to weave the next round row with the same pigtail, but in a dark color. Now I’ll attach 3 tubes and starting to weave the straight rope and then the reverse rope. I’ve finished 2 rows and this is what we got. The next step is to hide the base tubes. I’m going to bend them to the left and insert into the next base tube. Insert the base tubes from the inside. Expand the gap near to the next base tube, bend the tube to the right, dent the inserting point, and cut at an acute angle on a distance of about 5 mm. Narrow the edge, drip the drop of glue and insert. Insert the other tubes in the same way. I inserted the part of the tubes and decided to cut the tops of the rest for convenience. Also, the glue too softens the tubes, so I decided to insert them without gluing. We’re going to varnish the sledge and the edges will be fixated anyway. Adjust all the edges. Thanks for watching!
