Crochet Diagonal Basket Weave Stitch – Stitchorama by Naztazia

Hi I’m Donna Wolfe from natazia.com Today I’ll show you how to crochet this diagonal basket weave stitch. To begin chain 40 or any
multiple of six plus four. Skip the first two chains and make one double crochet
in the next. Skip three chains make 1 treble crochet
in the next three chains. One two and three. Remember those three skipped chains. We’re going to fill them in now. Reaching over from the front make 1
treble crochet in each of those 3 chains. One… It’s a little tricky at first to do this
but once you get past the initial row it becomes much easier. Two… and three. Skip the next three chains and make 1
treble crochet in the next three chains. 1 2 and 3. Next make 1 treble crochet in each of
those three skip chains. Be sure you are reaching over and working in the front
like this. One. You might need to pull apart your
stitches a bit to see the chains. Two… and I’m pulling apart the stitches to
be able to see the next chain. And three. Continue this process across
the row. At the end of the row you’ll have one chain left over. Make 1 double
crochet in this last chain. You can continue using the same color or switch
to another color. For the next row chain two and turn. For Row 2 start off with
four double crochet stitches. That first double crochet will be in the same
stitch as the chain 2. Three… and four. Now skip the next three chains
which happen to be the previous row’s treble crochet stitches. And make 1 treble crochet in each of the next three stitches. 1 2 and 3. Remember those three stitches
we skipped. We’re going to make three treble crochet stitches in them. However
as you can see we’re going to work from the back. This is why I’m using blue yarn.
I can easily remember that blue equals the back of the stitches. Two… you might
need to pull your stitches apart as before to be able to see the stitches.
And three. Skip the next three stitches and make 1 treble crochet in each of the
next three stitches. One Two and three. And we’re going to work back
into those stitches we skipped. Make 1 treble crochet in each of those 3
stitches. One two and three. Continue this process across the row. Near the end of the row you’ll find there are four stitches left. Make 1
double crochet in each of these four stitches. This matches the original four
double crochet stitches we made at the beginning of this row. Feel free to
change back over to the green on the last double crochet stitch if you wish.
Chain two and turn your work. We’re going to do a similar process like the first
row. Make one double crochet in the same stitch as the chain two. Skip three
stitches and make 1 treble crochet in each of the next three stitches. One, two and three. And like before make 1 treble
crochet, this time from the front in each of the three skipped stitches. 1 2 and 3. Continue this across the row. At the end
of this row make one double crochet. Feel free to change over to the blue yarn. Chain two and turn your work. You’ll
repeat row two for this row. Start off with the four double crochet stitches. Then after you make your three treble
crochet stitches work three more treble crochet stitches this time in the back
of the work. Repeat rows two and three for the
remainder of the pattern. Just remember blue stitches are worked in the back and
green stitches are worked from the front. And that’s how I make a crochet diagonal
basket weave stitch.
