How to Cast On Knitting Stitches without a Slip Knot

STEP 1 : Hold knitting needle in dominant hand with shaft in your palm and tip pointing upwards. STEP 2 : Take tail end of yarn and hold in dominant hand, parallel to knitting needle, with end of yarn end down. STEP 3 : With non dominant hand, grab working yarn and pull away from knitting needle so it’s perpendicular to the needle. STEP 4 : Hold working yarn in palm of non-dominant hand, close four fingers around it, swing thumb over top and up under yarn, wrapping it around thumb. STEP 5 : With tip of other needle, pick up loop off the thumb (slide up under loop next to thumb). STEP 6 : Remove thumb from loop and tighten yarn onto needle. Repeat steps 3-6 and cast on knitting stitches until you have reached your desired number of stitches.
