How to Crochet | 3 – Basic Crochet Stitches

Hi guys! Welcome back to a new episode
with me – Gea from Hobbii. So today we are going to be learning how to crochet the following stitches: The Slip stitch Single crochet stitch Half double crochet stitch The Double crochet stitch Half Treble/triple crochet stitch Treble/triple crochet stitch So.. I am gonna start this video by telling you a little story. When I was a little child All I wanted to do was just play, have fun, climb trees, be in the nature, be with my friends. Definitely not inside. So when my grandmother Mimi asked me if I wanted to learn how to crochet I said: no. I don’t want to Mimi. I want to play with the other children. I’m sorry… And I regret it really really badly right now, because .. My grandmother Mimi is far away now and I she can’t teach me anymore. So I ended up being very very frustrated most of the time. And this is what we’re gonna fix in this video – hopefully. We’re gonna learn basic stuff that I wish my grandmother would have taught me. So, the best way to practise a stitch is by doing washcloths. Waaashcloths Yeehaaaa They just have the same stitch all over and over ….. So you are just repeating the same thing all over and over until you’re really really good at it. Let’s start by making a Slip stitch! As always, we are gonna start with a foundation chain. If you don’t know have to make a foundation chain you should check out episode 1: How to get started. But yeah, in my foundation chain I chained 6 stitches. The chain on your hook never counts. The
same goes for the one right next to it – because they’re connected. So the first real chain you can crochet into is the 2nd chain from the hook. To make a slip stitch you will: Insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull out a loop. Now you got 2 loops on your hook. Grab the second loop and pull it through the first loop. This is a slip stitch. Now let’s try that again! Insert your hook into the next stitch.
Yarn over and pull out a loop. Now you got 2 loops on your hook. Pull the second loop through the first.
And just continue like this. Moving on to the Single crochet. Insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull out a loop. Now you’ve got 2 loops on your hook.
Yarn over and go through both loops on the hook. You just made a single crochet stitch! Now let’s do that again. Yarn over and pull out a loop.
Now you got 2 loops on your hook. Yarn over and go through both loops on the hook and just repeat to the end of the row. Sometimes it can be difficult to
identify the last stitch. One way of doing it is to turn your work slightly and look for the V on the top. If it looks like a V – it’s a stitch! Another way of doing it, is to mark the last stitch before starting the new row. And now… for the Half double crochet. To make a half double crochet, you need to: Yarn over. Insert your hook and pull up a loop. Now you have three loops on the hook.
Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook. You just made a half double crochet!
Let’s try that again. Yarn over. Insert your hook and pull up a
loop. Now you have three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook – and just continue to the end of the row. The double crochet is up next! So the double crochet requires: Yarn over. Insert hook and pull up a loop. Now you got 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over pull through the last two loops on the hook. And you just made a double crochet stitch!
And let’s try it again. Yarn over. Insert hook and pull out a loop. Now you’ve got 3 loops on the hook.
Yarn over pull through 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the last 2
loops on the hook and continue to the end. And now… for the Half Treble/triple crochet. In order to make a half treble/triple crochet you yarn over 2 times. Insert hook and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the last 3 loops on the hook. You just made a half treble/triple crochet!
Now let’s let’s try that again. Yarn over two times. Insert hook and pull up a loop. Yarn over pull through 2 loops on the
hook. Yarn over and pull through the last 3
loops on the hook. Continue to the end of the row. And last but not least: The treble/ triple crochet So in order to make a Treble/ triple crochet you have to:
Yarn over 2 times Insert hook and pull up a loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops on the hook. Now let’s try that again! Yarn over two times. Insert hook and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the
hook. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the
hook. Yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops on the hook and just continue to the end of the row. Alright my sweethearts and darlings 🙂
