How to Crochet Shells and Post Stitch

How to Crochet Shells and Post Stitch

Hi I’m Donna Wolfe from naztazia.com
Today I’ll show you the shells and post stitch pattern. To begin chain 40 or any multiple of six plus four. Row one – in the seventh chain from the hook make a shell
stitch which consists of two double crochet stitches chain one and two double crochet stitches. By the way to get more videos like this please subscribe to my YouTube channel. Skip two chains. Then make one double crochet in the next
chain. Skip two chains and make the shell
stitch again. Two double crochet chain one, and two double crochet. Skip two chains. Make a double crochet in the next chain. Continue repeating this pattern of shells and a double crochet
across the row. At the end you’ll place your last double crochet in the last
chain. To help us with the remaining rows place
a stitch marker in a stitch to designate the front side of the work. For row two, chain three and turn your work. In the previous shell’s chain one space
make another shell which is two double crochet, chain one, and two double crochet. For the next stitch, because the
paperclip is in the back of the work, right now we’re going to make a back
post double crochet stitch around the previous double crochet stitch. And in the next shell make another shell. And again because the stitch marker is
in the back to remind us, we’ll make a back post double crochet stitch. This keeps those relief stitches
consistently facing the front side of the work. Continue in this pattern across
the row. At the end because we really can’t make a back post stitch in the
last chain just make one double crochet in the top of the turning chain.
For Row 3 you can continue on in the same color, but I like to change colors
at this point. So I’m using a lighter pink yarn. Chain 3 and turn your work. Now since this paper clip is in the front, all of those 1 double crochet stitches
will be front post double crochet ones. So we’ll start off with our regular
shell stitch. And this time make the front post double
crochet stitch here. Then do a shell stitch. And then in the double crochet do a
front post double crochet stitch. Keep making this pattern across the row.
And at the end just place your last double crochet on the top of the turning
chain. This is what it looks like so far. For subsequent rows just repeat rows 2 &
3. So we chain 3, turn our work, and on this row all double crochet stitches
will be back post double crochet stitches, since the paperclip is in the back. After you make the first shell stitch you’ll
make a back post double crochet in the previous row’s stitch and continue on in
this pattern for as many rows as you wish. And that’s how I make my shells and post stitch pattern. To get more videos like this please subscribe to my YouTube
